What is it?

Solar PV SBU (Strategic Business Unit) is the unit which is responsible for controlling and regulating all Solar PV related training at SHRDC, in accordance to meet Malaysia's demand for trained technicians in Solar PV as the country embraces renewable Energy generation.

Solar PV SBU’s main objective is to promote Green Energy in Malaysia and to increase awareness among public of the benefits of solar energy.

Who does it?

Solar PV SBU is tasked with providing education to INSEP (Industrial Skills Enhancement Program) students (Diploma students with Electrical or relevant background) as well as offering certification courses to the public.

These short courses are:

  • Design and Installation of Grid-Connected PV (GCPV) Systems Training
  • Design and Installation of Off-Grid PV (OGPV) Systems Training

How do we do it?

Solar PV SBU collaborated with the following parties to meet its objectives:
  • SEDA (Sustainable Energy Development Authority)
  • UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA)
  • MPIA (Malaysia Photovoltaic Industry Association)

These collaborations are important because Solar PV SBU needs:

a.       To ensure that Solar PV training are in line with Government’s direction in Green Technology. SEDA is under KeTTHA (Kementerian Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air), hence their guidance on how to comply with the direction is invaluable.

b.       To learn from UiTM’s experience as the first centre to run GCPV and OGPV system certification. Aside from this, UiTM is also the home of PVMC (Photovoltaic Monitoring Centre), which is responsible for monitoring all PV installations in Malaysia under the Malaysian Building Integrated PV (MBiPV) project.

c.        To work closely with MPIA in gaining Solar PV technology update in opportune fashion. INSEP students under SHRDC also can benefit as well, as MPIA can embrace them as OJT (On-The-Job) trainees.
